ARA-290 Research Guide: Cibinetide, Potential Benefits and Evidence

What is ARA-290?

ARA-290, also called cibinetide or pHBSP, is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide designed from a surface region of erythropoietin (EPO). It has been investigated for tissue-protective signalling separately from EPO's classical stimulation of red-blood-cell production. The QRP product is labelled ARA-290 10 mg and supplied as a lyophilised laboratory research material.

Potential benefits under investigation

The most directly relevant human research discussed here concerns symptoms and nerve-fibre measures in people with sarcoidosis-associated small-fibre neuropathy. This is a specific disease context, rather than evidence for general pain relief, recovery or performance enhancement. Researchers have also explored how EPO-derived signalling may relate to cellular injury and repair.

What did the clinical studies investigate?

A randomized, double-blind pilot study examined ARA-290 in sarcoidosis patients with symptoms of small-fibre neuropathy. As a pilot, it provided an early test of the clinical question rather than a definitive answer about broad clinical use. Read the pilot study

Symptoms and nerve-fibre measurements

A separate report described improvements in patient-reported outcomes and an increase in corneal small-nerve-fibre density, alongside changes in temperature sensitivity and walking-test performance. These findings make nerve function and repair relevant research topics. Corneal nerve measurements are not a direct measure of whole-body nerve regeneration, and the results should not be generalized to every cause of neuropathy. Read the clinical report

What remains uncertain?

A result in one patient population does not establish effectiveness in unrelated pain conditions. Small or short studies cannot reliably detect uncommon adverse effects or establish long-term safety. Differences in the manufactured material, formulation and quality controls also matter: the cited studies did not evaluate or certify QRP Research vials.

WHAT YOU NEED — LABORATORY RESEARCH

Use the exact batch identity and available certificate of analysis, safety documentation, an approved experimental protocol, and the protective equipment specified by your laboratory's risk assessment. The method should define appropriate measuring equipment, compatible consumables, sample labels and storage conditions. Obtain missing preparation information from the supplier and laboratory supervisor rather than extrapolating from a clinical trial.

Reviewing the 10 mg vial and COA

The labelled 10 mg is product content, not a human dose. Check that the material is identified as ARA-290/cibinetide, and that the batch on the report matches the vial. Review identity testing separately from chromatographic purity and any quantitative content assay. A purity percentage alone does not establish sterility or clinical safety. Frequently asked questions

Is ARA-290 the same as EPO? No; it is a distinct peptide developed to explore selected signalling effects. Do preliminary neuropathy findings establish a treatment for all nerve pain? No; diagnosis, study design and outcome measures matter. Does this guide provide a treatment protocol? No; it explains research and documentation for laboratory evaluation.
